Corporate Ladder Corporate Speak
Climbing the corporate ladder requires learning a little corporate lingo. Not just in an office environment but pretty much anywhere you work for a living, or even volunteer, you need to know some jargon. Knowing what’s going on in your field is fine, but when the language becomes brutal, what’s a person do? Some folks will say or do anything if they think it will advance their career. People have been known to lie or start rumors just because they think they are improving their situation or keeping somebody else from moving ahead.
Fortunately there are people in the world that excel in their lives and careers by striving to help others get ahead in their life. Take a look at Darren Rowse of Pro Blogger - the guy takes every piece of information that he has benefited from and shares it with the world. How about Zen Habits Leo Babauta? He searches for all things zen from other people as well as from within and shares it with the world. I can’t leave out Oprah Winfrey, the woman has made a mint but continues to share it with the world. Another mentor to the giving society is Tina Su, writer for Think Simple Now – she takes her personal experiences and steps towards personal wellbeing and shares it with the world. Gina Trapani of Lifehacker has translated corporate speak for commonfolk and…yes, shares it with the world. These people I admire and turn to as mentors because they take their gifts and share them. They have climbed the “corporate ladder” by pulling people up with them, not by kicking them down on the way up. They have made corporate speak polite and encouraging.
There is a long list of goals that I hope to reach. I seek out encouragement from a variety of resources and mentors to get me to those goals. I won’t stop climbing, especially if there is hope that I can pull somebody else up with me. There is enough negativity and discouragement in the world today. I will strive to become one of the positive and encouraging influences, perhaps a mentor if I’m lucky, and I will share it with the world. -ed
